Harristown House

Built in the second half of the 18th century under the supervision of the architect Whitmore Davis. The La Touche family lived in the house until 1920. This house is open to the public for specific days and times. Please contact directly for details. A half hour guided tour is available. Group visits should be arranged in advance.

The La Touche family resided at Harristown until 1920. The house was subsequently acquired by M.W. Beaumont (father of Rev. Lord Beaumont of Whitely) who put eighteenth century wallpapers in two rooms and brought “The House of Confucius” from Wotton for the garden. Other important features include original furniture from France and Italy ornate mantelpieces inlaid floors and mahogany doors.

The front gate of Harristown Estate is at Carnalway Cross on the R412 approximately half way between the villages of Two Mile House and Brannockstown.

Directions
From Dublin take the N7 for Limerick and Cork. At junction 11 exit onto M9 toward KilcullenCarlow and Athy. Exit at the turn for Kilcullen. Turn left onto R448 and go into Kilcullen. Drive through the traffic lights over the river and then take the first right next to the dentist‰Ûªs surgery. Travel approximately 4 km and you will arrive at Carnalway Cross which is a five road intersection. The gates of the Estate are in front of you. Once you are inside the gates you enter a world of tranquillity as you drive through rolling parkland and up to the house. The journey is 53 km and should take you less than an hour.
